10 Year old girl with Cerebral Palsy is taken by ICE agents after Surgery, now faces deportation.

A 10-year-old girl with cerebral palsy faces deportation after Border Patrol agents took her into custody following emergency gall bladder surgery. Rosa Maria Hernandez was brought to Laredo, Texas, from Mexico by her parents when she was a baby and has been living in the US ever since. The girl was taken to a detention facility in San Antonio, and was recently released back to her parents.

In a statement, a Customs and Border Protection spokesperson said, "Once medically cleared she (Hernandez) will be processed accordingly." Democratic representative Henry Cuellar, who represents the Laredo area in Congress, is pushing for Hernandez's to be released of any charges.

U.S. Rep. Joaquin Castro, a Texas Democrat, said it’s unclear what the next steps are for the Hernandez family.

"While this is welcome news, Rosa Maria's future remains uncertain," Castro said in a statement. "The Trump administration has not made clear whether (it) will proceed with deportation proceedings against her. I continue to call for Rosa Maria's case to be administratively closed."

Castro continued on to say that the United States “should not be a place where children seeking life-sustaining medical care are at risk of apprehension." & “A case like Rosa Maria’s should never happen again,” Castro added.
