2 Year old Oregon kid is found with Cocaine in his system, mother is arrested for giving it to the y

A mother in Oregon is facing felony Child abuse charges and neglect after her 2 year old son was found with Cocaine in his system. Cocaine is addictive due to its effect on the reward pathway in the brain and since children's brains are not fully functional this could have a lasting effect on a developing brain. After a short period of use, there is a high risk that dependence will occur. Its use also increases the risk of stroke, myocardial infarction, lung problems in those who smoke it, blood infections, and sudden cardiac death. Cocaine sold on the street is commonly mixed with local anesthetics, cornstarch, quinine, or sugar, which can result in additional toxicity

The mother, who is named Kalin Swartz, is now facing two felony charges for the incident that allegedly happened in September but was arrested On Dec. 20,including assault and causing another person to ingest a controlled substance, which that being her own 2 year old infant son. Family members claimed the baby seemed lethargic at times and we're worried for the babies health. The grandmother hopes the Swartz stays in jail until she receives the right rehabilitation.In July the 2 year old also suffered an injury and was accused of child abuse, but no charges followed said the grandmother. The baby , who's name is Beau, is now in custody of his father and grandparents and the mother is awaiting trial in january.
