CNN Reports that One week after the Thomas Fire exploded from a brush fire to a raging inferno, hundreds of firefighters made some headway Monday in their struggle to contain the Wildfires that are destroying acres of land.The blaze is larger than all of New York City and about 20% contained as of Monday evening,according to the fire protection agency CAL FIRE.The California wildfires by the numbersBut it's only one of six major wildfires torching the state, which have destroyed more than 1,000 structures.As the flames burned in the foothills on the edge of Montecito in Santa Barbara County on Monday evening, some hoped for the best.
More than a dozen fires across Northern California had burned hundreds of thousands of acres earlier this year also. "Through all of our fires, we are starting to make progress," Barry Biermann, Napa County Fire Department Chief, told reporters in the interview earlier this year At least seven major legal marijuana farms have been destroyed in the fatal Northern California wildfires and more are to be found damaged as well in recent fires but with the new Wildfires emerging throughout the state more crops are being destroyed.
The crop damage comes months after California has set to begin state licensing for recreational sales.It is not certain how much was lost but they are estimating it could be in the tens of millions of dollars lost for California revenue. Along with the crops being destroyed they are estimating 100 of millions of dollars in property damage all across the state. This will leave many farmers without land and people who are using properties for their grows will be at a total loss of everything , since their is not type of insurance for medical marijuana grows. This will push back sales until the end of 2018 for some cities and high quantities of medical marijuana will be on high demand, which will cause a spike in pricing.
